Xref Course: Memory Part Number Cross-Reference Guide

Learn a structured method for evaluating memory part numbers and module-level alternatives. The course distinguishes component decoding from DDR module compatibility.

Four-step cross-reference method

  1. Recognize the manufacturer family and memory generation.
  2. Build a specification fingerprint including type, density, organization, voltage, package, speed and temperature requirements.
  3. Match technical constraints rather than part-number strings.
  4. Validate form factor, ECC, ranks, lifecycle and target-platform qualification.

Module-level rule

Do not treat a cross-reference as a drop-in replacement. DDR generation, module architecture, ECC behavior, rank layout, capacity, speed and platform rules must be verified for the target system.
